Picture
A photo or drawing as a layer: the source for stipple and curl-stroke portraits, or just a picture to blend with.
Picture is a picture or face read as marks. Every piece on Synapse Drip is made from a recipe that layers techniques like this one, and you can change any of it in the Studio.
Good to know
- The first digital photograph was made by Russell Kirsch in 1957, a scan of his infant son at 176 pixels on a side.
- Mipmaps are pre-shrunk copies of a texture; a graphics card picks between them to avoid shimmering when an image is drawn smaller than its real size, an idea Lance Williams published in 1983.
The mathematics
- A photograph is a grid of numbers: a one-megapixel greyscale picture holds a million brightness values, each between 0 and 255.
In art
- Collage, set in motion by Picasso and Braque around 1912, joins found pictures into a new whole.
