Linked Rings
Linked rings: 8 regular pentagons made of square bars, each at its own angle and turning slowly, are scattered through a ball so that they link through one another; the scene is ray-marched, the nearest bar gives each hit its colour round the rainbow, and the flat faces of the bars are lit from a key light and a fill.
Hearted by 1 person in the Gallery.
The mathematics
- The distance to a square bar is the largest of the absolute offsets in its two cross-section directions and beyond its ends, the max-norm, which is never larger than the true distance, so the march can never overshoot a bar.
In art
- Colour wheels in rainbow order have been used to organise colour since Newton drew his in 1704.
Made with Linked rings.
